I am new to the world of blogging. I stumbled onto my first blog when I was scanning Facebook. On the side of the page was a notification that one of my friends liked this certain blog called Thrifty Decor Chick. Once I opened it up and began to read …. I COULDN’T STOP!! It is so addictive. Oh yea, and very educational!
I found a tutorial on Sarah’s blog (Thrifty Decor Chick) for a dining room centerpiece that was absolutely beautiful. And it looked pretty easy, too. You can find her tutorial here.
Here’s what I did:
I bought my FIRST 1’x4′ mirror at AC Moore, my second one at Target. Yes, I broke the first one attempting to pull the plastic edging off.
The LOML got very mad at me because I’m Speedy McGreedy to his Slow But Sure, I’m the hare, he’s the turtle. I’m constantly telling him to speed up and he’s telling me to slow down. OPPOSITES ATTRACT! Every day I wish I could be more like him. He’s my hero!!
Getting back to the project. We took the plastic edging off (without breaking it this time!). We bought a piece of 1/2″ plywood and had it cut down by the very helpful people at Lowes to the same size as the mirror. I painted it with white glossy trim paint. Then we glued it with Liquid Nails to the back of the mirror.
We then glued the molding (I painted it white first). I love the detail!!
We bought the straightest pieces of molding we could find but it still warped after I painted it so we had to use wire brads to hold it in place.
We glued a 1/4″ piece of pine all the way around the bottom piece of wood to make the molding flush with the rest of the wood like this:
I caulked all the way around to fill in any gaps and filled in any nail holes and voilà
What I love about this centerpiece is that I can use any decorations for any occasion and it will be beautiful. Here is a picture of my blue decorations to go with the dining room colors:
I bought beautiful clear and blue stones and the white bead vines from AC Moore, candles from Yummycandles.com.
Here is my Halloween decorations:
I bought the orange stones, pumpkins and the candle at AC Moore. The candle smells like vanilla so I purposefully walk through the dining room just for the smell. YUMMY!
I hope everyone is having a safe and Happy Halloween!!
