Do you remember when I told you about the LOMLs desk that we were going to move into Son #4’s bedroom when we were building the cozy reading nook? How it fell apart in our hands as we were transporting it. We didn’t make it ten steps before all the joints broke apart!
We ended up salvaging the top of the desk because it was a beautiful stained wood piece and I just couldn’t bring it to the dump. I knew I could find some project that I could use it for. Well,……………………..
Son #1 is in the process of moving into a new place and he is in possession of an old desk we had that I REALLY want back for our master bedroom so I concocted a plan (insert evil sinister laughter here!).
Here’s the desk I want!
So we planned on making him another beautiful desk using the same piping we used for our master bedroom closet as the desk legs and attaching it to the bottom of this beautiful topper.
Here is a partial drawing of the LOMLs plans for the new industrial desk.
We bought steel piping from Lowe’s Home Improvement, cleaned it, and peeled off all the stickers (that’s probably the hardest part!).
We put all the pieces together, checking with a level and adjusting as needed.
I painted all the pipes, flanges, and three ways with Rustoleum hammered paint and primer in black. Then we sprayed with one coat of polyurethane.
We placed the desk top (isn’t it beautiuful??!!) onto the painted pipes so you can get the idea of how it will look when Son #1 puts it together in his new place.
I think it came out really nice. I think Son #1 will like putting all his computer and videography equipment on it.
Son #1 will move the desk in two pieces into his new townhouse and assemble it there while we are at an ultimate frisbee tournament for Son #3 and #4. Can’t wait to see them and can’t wait to see Son #1’s new place when we get back!
What are y’all up to this weekend?
Love y’all,
Linda
