I’ve wanted to share about the mattress we bought from Layla. We absolutely love it!!

The LOML is a researcher. He studies up on anything and everything when buying something. It was no different when we were in the market for a mattress for our new king size bed frame the we got from Wayfair. I learned way more than I ever wanted to know about mattresses; pillow top, inner spring, foam, gel, waterbed, airbed, and the list goes on and on.

As we get older, sleeping comfortably is getting more and more difficult. The LOML is a back/side sleeper where I am a side/stomach sleeper. That being said, we both get out of bed in the morning with a few moans and our first few steps resemble a penguin walk. Our shoulders and hips are aching, too. It really stinks getting old!!

When the LOML did his research, we found out the memory foam mattress has more give and less pressure at our shoulders, hips, and back than traditional spring coil mattresses. A negative of the memory foam mattress is they run hot.

Which lead us to the memory foam gel top mattress which helps keep the body cool. We had to find a brand of memory foam gel top mattress with the firmness level suited for our two different sleeping styles.

We went to a Mattress Firm store near us (side joke in our family is you can find a Mattress Firm on every corner in our city!!) to try out the different mattresses. We were the only ones in the store so we had 100% attention of the nice and knowledgeable salesman. We tried out mid- and high-end inner spring mattresses. Laying on them reminded us of our present mattress which hurt our everythings. Then we tried the mid- and high-end memory foam mattresses which had an initial sinking feeling but unlike the inner spring mattresses, we didn’t feel the pressure points. We also tried a memory foam mattress with a cooling gel top layer. We could really feel the difference in temperature. The LOML audibly sighed!

On our way out of the store, we saw their inconspicuous display of the “mattress in a box” line of memory foam mattresses. We couldn’t believe how much cheaper they were and that you could fit a mattress in a box!!!!!!!!!! Out of curiosity, we tried out one of these mattress in a box and found it to be just as comfortable as the mid- and high-end mattresses we just tried. The only thing it lacked was the cooling gel top.

A week after we placed our order, the box arrived at our doorstep. We still couldn’t conceive of how a king size mattress could fit into this box!!

We brought the box up to our bedroom and opened it up. It looked like a flattened pancake wrapped in plastic. We placed it on the bed frame, removed the plastic wrapping, and waited for it to inflate. It was kind of exciting!! It was fully inflated within minutes.
