Hey Y’all!!
Our air conditioning unit for the upstairs stopped working a few weeks ago. It was running intermittently; it would just stop working every once in awhile. The temperature upstairs got up to 90°!! So we got to have a little slumber party in the family room with the girls where it was still nice and cool.
When the air conditioning guy came to check on the unit, he had to climb over our wood pallet fence. The LOML got a good look at how the fencing was deteriorating.
So we just spent the day outside doing yard work.
Yard work is not my favorite thing to do….neither is it a favorite for my 15- and 16-year old daughters but they were real troopers.
Remember the wood pallet fence we built around our air conditioning unit outside?
We built it over 5 years ago and you can read about how we built it here. It held up pretty well for being FREE!! But it started to fall apart so we tore it down. Well, really it basically fell apart in our hands.
The LOML ran to the dump with all the rotting wood. Behind the fence all these weeds were hiding!
We cleaned all of this mess up. It looks so much better!! We also dug up the grass for an area for the new knock out rose bushes that we were planning to plant in front of the fencing.
We were planning on visiting our friendly neighborhood Lowe’s Home Improvement to find vinyl panels to somehow attach to the poles that we placed in cement to make a permanent fixture. But after we removed all the wood and cleaned up all the weeds and saw how well our knock out roses grow in this area…….
…I thought why not use the knock out bushes to make a natural fence around the air conditioning units. That way, the units are accessible without using a ladder to get into it and it will be easier to weed.
So we ran to Lowe’s and bought three more knock out rose bushes. We dug three holes about the size + ½ more of the size of the pot. This is where we were reminded of how old we are. It was tiring work and the ground was hard as rock!
We added enough garden soil to cover the bottom of each hole.
We took each bush out of its pot, loosened the roots, plopped them into the holes and added more soil.
We then piled on some mulch and watered like crazy. It’s been pretty hot here in N.C.
The other side of our house has a walkway that accesses the green way behind our house. Lots of people use it so we’ve always wanted to have something to divide our yard from the path for some privacy.
While we were in the planting mood, we bought four Crape Myrtles from Lowe’s Home Improvement. We dug four more holes, about two feet deep (yes, we were dying!!!!), put soil down, added the trees with loosened roots, added more soil and then mulch. We also watered each a lot and every day for about a week.
While we were at Lowe’s, we found some beautiful mums so we decorated our front stoop for the fall. I love the colors of fall!!
We’re having a new roof put on our house tomorrow which we’ve been waiting for for a long time! I’ve had all the plans running around my head that we couldn’t do until after the roof was completed. Two of the projects are to pressure wash the outside of the whole house and to update our deck. It really needs some new paint. I’m keeping it real here folks! Keeping it real!
Hope your weekend was good and the coming week is even better!!
Love y’all,
Linda
