Thirty five years ago, I married the most wonderful man!
This week we’re celebrating and reminiscing about all the wonderful and not so wonderful times we’ve shared together. Marriage is hard work!! If anyone tells you different, you’re being fibbed to!! There’s a lot of compromise, apologizing when you’re wrong and sometimes when you’re right, different fighting styles, different love languages, different disciplining techniques, different temperaments and the list can go on and on.
Our celebration began with a delicious dinner at PF Changs where we enjoyed Crispy Honey Shrimp, Lo Mein, and Ginger Chicken all over steamed rice. We enjoyed a little sweet and a little salty with noodles (for long life) and great conversation with a very intelligent man…the LOML (love of my life).
The next day we planned a movie date with our girls to watch “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” We’re a big Marvel family. It’s the second Dr. Strange movie to come out so we spent the night before watching the first “Dr. Strange.”
The next day the LOML, my two daughters and I headed to the Regal Movie theater, bought our tub of popcorn and sat at the very back of the theater and enjoyed all the action packed drama of the new “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Pretty good movie even though Thor (my ultimate favorite Marvel character) did not make an appearance 🙁
The next day, the LOML and I left for a four day getaway to Carolina Beach. The beach is about a two hour drive so we’re blessed to be close enough to the beach for a quick couple of days trip.
When we got into Carolina Beach, we had dinner at Cape Fear Seafood Company. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. I really like the drinking glasses.
We rented an airbnb right on the beach so when we arrived, we went straight to the outside deck to enjoy the sounds and smells of the beach. It is always so calming! I swear I felt my blood pressure go down!
The Lunar Eclipse was beautiful that night so we took a little walk on the beach.
I really want to own a beach house. One of these would definitely do!!
Down the beach from our rental is this restaurant/bar on a pier. It was always packed.
Of course, we headed to the beach as soon as we woke up the next morning for a good long walk. I’m not much for laying on the beach but I can walk and splash in the water. It was kinda chilly! After 35 years, I still enjoy spending time with this guy. We never run out of things to talk about and laugh at. As we get older, the laughing is usually at ourselves! As usual, I had to admire all the beautiful beach houses.
After about a four mile walk, we were still smiling…breathing harder but still smiling!
We cleaned up and gussied up a bit for a nice dinner at Michael’s Seafood. We’ve been here a few times and always come back. Great food, great service! Can you guess my favorite color is blue?
It got very dark and windy when we left the restaurant. It was very eerie! A storm came in quick with lots of thunder and lightning. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the light show!
The next day, we walked on the boardwalk. Bright colored kites decorated the pretty blue sky.
We went to dinner at the Deck House Bar and Grill which was a neat little church renovated into a restaurant. It was very cool! There was a huge boat sail in the middle of the room.
For breakfast the next morning, we went to Kate’s Pancake House. The pancakes were delicious!!
Then we hopped on the ferry to Southport.
I really do love this sweet man! He puts up with a lot from me. Every crazy idea or plan, he looks at me like I’m crazy then does it with me.
We drove off the ferry then parked the car and walked around the adorable little town of Southport. This is where some of the scenes from the movie “Safe Haven” by Nicholas Sparks was shot.
Katie and Alex’s ‘I love you’ and kiss scene was filmed at the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry Terminal.
Visit Fishy Fishy Cafe and you’ll be in the exact location that served as the set for the Safe Haven General Store where Alex and Katie meet.
American Fish Co. was transformed into Ivan’s Fish Shack where Katie worked as a waitress in the film.
Walking through the neighborhoods, the homeowners took great care with each detail. There were beautiful brightly colored flowers everywhere.
The neighbors were so friendly!!
It was a fun day trip where I dreamed of retiring to a place exactly like this beautiful town.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, watch “Safe Haven” starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Hough. You’ll get the small beach town feeling, too.
Thanks for visiting! Hope you’re enjoying the start of summer. We’re enjoying the time with our youngest child before she heads of for college in the fall. AAAHHHHHH! Tears are falling!!
Love y’all,
Linda
