I’m on the tenth prompt of my month of February blogging challenge.
To be honest, I skipped one for two reasons…..1) It was a dumb prompt and 2) We were gone all weekend at an ultimate frisbee tournament in Charlotte watching our boys kick some butt!
The prompt today is…
“DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL FRIEND. DO YOU LIVE UP TO THIS DESCRIPTION IN YOUR FRIENDSHIPS?”
I looked up the word ideal and found it to mean “something considered worthy of imitation, a concept or standard of perfection.” WOW!! No pressure!
I have been blessed with some absolutely wonderful friends. Some were in my life for a specific season while others stick with me for the long haul. Both are important in my life.
If I think of all the traits of my friends, the ones that stand out to me are kindness, truthfulness, sincere, funny, encouraging, forgiving, humble, dependable, loyal, and a great listener.
Kindness ~ I seem to be drawn to people who are very sweet.
Truthfulness ~ I need a friend who is honest.
Sincere ~ I need someone who will be genuine, not hypocritical.
Funny ~ This may seem shallow but being funny is an important trait if you’re going to hang around me. I need to spit out a drink and laugh till it hurts as much as possible.
Encouraging ~ My love language is Words of Affirmation so every once in awhile, I need a positive word or two.
Forgiving ~ I make mistakes all. the. time. I don’t mean to but sometimes my mouth runs before my brain does. I need my friend to know I’m a little crazy not mean.
Humble ~ Have you ever met someone who looks down their nose at you? Or someone who always has a better story? I hate that! I don’t compete or compare EVER!
Dependable ~ I appreciate someone who, when they say they’re going to do something, they do it.
Loyal ~ I once had a friend who found a “better” friend and dumped me like a sack of potatoes! It hurt a lot! I’m okay with having lots of friends but why be so exclusive? It’s silly to me.
A great listener ~ I love to talk!! But I also love to listen. I’m always up for a breakfast date that lasts through lunch.
I found all the cute quotes on iliketoquote.com.
My friends are near and dear to me. They are there when I’m hurting and don’t want to talk, or when I need a break from the kids/LOML, or to celebrate life. I don’t know what I would do without their love and support and friendship. And you know who you are!
Now to answer the question “Do you live up to the description of an ideal friend?” My hope is to be the perfect friend but I do and will fail miserably at times. Sometimes I can be selfish, proud, moody, or lazy. My goal is to be all the things on the above list. But I hope my friends will forgive my weaknesses and appreciate my strengths as I hope I do for them.
What’s an ideal friend to you? Let me know in the comments.
Tomorrow’s prompt is “Do you have a favorite fairy tale? Why does that particular story speak to you?” Come back tomorrow and find out mine.
Hope you had a great Monday!
Love y’all,
Linda
