ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

Son #1 is getting married in October near Asheville, North Carolina. It’s a little town about 20 minutes north of Asheville called Weaverville. It’s population is a tiny 3911 as of 2017. It’s a sweet little town full of farms and a cozy downtown.

This past weekend the LOML, Son #4, Daughter #1, Daughter #2, and I took a little vacay up to Asheville to check out the wedding venue, check out hotels and restaurants in the area and to just enjoy a little family time.

We left our house Saturday morning and met Son #4 who was driving down from App State University in Boone, NC, at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for a tour of the plant and a great lunch at the Taproom. It’s a huge and beautiful building. You can either choose a guided tour or you can do what we did and do a self-guided tour. There were beer tastings all through the tour. We’re not big beer drinkers but the place was packed! Thanks to my friend Ms. H for the recommendation.

This is a gigantic chandelier made of beer bottles!! It was magnificent!

This is my lunch.

I ordered the Shrimp and Leek Crepe and it was so tasty!! I probably could have eaten a whole second one!! The LOML ordered a Sierra Veza beer with his lunch of Cuban Pork and Beans and both were delicious.

After we toured the brewery, we hopped in the car and headed to our hotel for a little nap.

After some of us napped, we headed into downtown Asheville to Farm Burger for dinner on the recommendation of one of Son #4s friends.

I ordered sweet potato hush puppies and a BLT cheeseburger. Both were yummy!!!

We are always happy to spend time with this guy. We weren’t able to see him on his 21st birthday so this long weekend was dedicated to him becoming a REAL adult! He did not have one drop of alcohol even though he legally can. I guess he was on his best behavior for mom and dad.

After dinner, we walked around and window shopped in the downtown area of Asheville. They have a lot of cute shops and restaurants. Daughter #2s favorite was the Indo Apparel and Gifts shop where she ran around the store like she found buried treasure. Looking at all the clothes and cool trinkets, she was in heaven. She found this funny animal hat and hands thingy.

When our sweet tooth started screaming, we stopped for some ice cream. I had a chocolate sundae (YUMMY!) and then we headed back to the hotel.

The next morning we visited The Fields of Blackberry Cove where Son #1 and his beautiful fianceé are having their wedding ceremony in October. It’s a beautiful piece of land in the small town of Weaverville, NC. The owners bought a 21-acre horse farm and converted it into a beautiful wedding venue that includes a 3200 square foot horse stable transformed into a stunning place for a wedding reception.

On the property is this 200 year old tree. The wedding guests will sit under the tree with their backs to it and looking at this…

There will be some sort of decorated arbor under the branches of this tree and the beautiful bride and handsome groom will say their vows. I am NOT crying!!

Freda, our sweet tour guide said that because it’s March and still pretty cold out, we won’t be able to see all the beautiful colors blooming but in October it will be spectacular!

This outside area will be for cocktail time in between the ceremony and dinner. There will be tables and chairs with twinkling lights overhead and romantic music playing.

I’m so excited for Son #1 and his beautiful fianceé to get married.

After the tour, we headed to a nearby hiking trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway where we walked uphill (Son #4 was trying to kill us!) for about 3 miles to see this beautiful scenery.

After our grueling satisfying hike, we took our jello-feeling legs back to the hotel to get ready for our dinner out at Pack’s Tavern in downtown Asheville to check out their event rooms for the dinner the night before the wedding.

Pack’s Tavern is a great pub-like restaurant with lots of seating and a huge bar area. Upstairs are the event rooms for meetings, parties, etc. I had the lobster macaroni and cheese and I was so famished I ate it before I could take a picture of it. Trust me, it looked as good as it tasted!!

The next morning, before we headed home, we wanted to do something we thought Son #4 would enjoy. We did Breakout Games escape room.

We had never done an escape room before so we were real novices. After being led into the room in a single file line with blindfolds on (that’s not a trust test or anything!) Kayleigh was kind enough to explain the rules. We had one hour to get out of the “Kidnapped” room. We did pretty good with lots of hints from Kayleigh. It was so much fun!! We’ll definitely do one of those again!!

Our trip to Asheville, North Carolina was informative, beautiful, and a lot of fun!

Have you been to Asheville? If not, do you want to go now? I hope so.

Being away from home is fun, but getting back is always the best feeling!!

Have a great weekend y’all!

Home is Where My Heart is

Love y’all,

Linda
