COLLEGE BOY’S ROOM TO BEAUTIFUL GUEST ROOM

I want to welcome all the new visitors to this blog. Yesterday, I had the most readers EVER in the ten years I’ve been blogging. I can’t express how touched I am that you come to read my story. I love sharing my projects and my ideas and I’m so glad that you come to share some time with me.

Now on to the redoing of my college son’s bedroom to a beautiful guest room.

When we bought our present house in 2001, we picked our floor plan because it included a guest room on the first floor with a full bath next to it because my dream was to have my mom move in with us when it became clear she would need help with her every day routine.

Sadly, she never had the chance to see our new house.

She came to visit earlier in the year of 2001 (September) from S. Florida when our family of 6 was living in a 3 bedroom apartment awaiting the completion of our new construction home.

She came a few days before the Sept. 11th attacks and we were sitting in the living room watching the news when we saw the horrible occurrence take place. We both sat horrified and stunned.

After that visit, she refused to travel anymore.

So my mom’s room became our guest room for awhile, then the LOML’s office, then when our oldest was a Senior in high school, we transformed it into an NC State bedroom to get him ready for college.

It’s basically stayed this way until now.

All of our boys are out of the house now (insert sad face) and we’re preparing to have guests come for Son #1’s wedding so I thought I’d dress it up a bit.

I kept the gray walls and the black furniture but I wanted to lighten up the room a little so I added a soft white and gray flowered quilt to the bed.

I hung white sheers on my DIY curtain rod.

I bought these sweet curtain tie backs from Rakuten.com.

I kept some red accents like the two throw pillows on the bed and the cute side table I picked up at IKEA.

I bought this sweet stool and faux plant (so I can’t kill it!) from Hobby Lobby.

And of course we have to have the matching family picture. Yes, I’m that mom!! I have a family picture using every color under the sun!

The frame with a bible verse was given to me by a dear friend. I love the lamps I found on Amazon.

I was in Hobby Lobby before the wedding with my beautiful almost daughter-in-law and we were looking for a large frame for a ‘Welcome’ sign for the guests at the wedding. She found a beautiful gold intricately carved frame but it didn’t come with a glass piece. I found another frame the exact same size with a glass piece so I bought both. My daughter-in-law felt bad that we had to buy both frames and she was worried that I wouldn’t be able to use the extra frame. HA!! Here’s the frame surrounding a pretty ‘L’ also from Hobby Lobby. I used some twine and an extra hook from the curtain rod to hang on. What do you think?

And of course, my favorite part is the before & after. The after is so much brighter and prettier, don’t you think?

I think our new guest room looks very welcoming now, don’t you?

It’s already been used twice. I hope the occupants always feel welcome!
