And again thank you sweet friends!!
If you haven’t read about how we built our DIY barn door please click on the link and then come back quickly so you can see this beauty in its new home.
Because we didn’t remove the door jamb to the closet, we had to install a piece of wood above the jamb to attach the Classic Standard Single Barn Door hardware kit from Wayfair. We measured the width of the door, then doubled for the length of the board. I painted the board the same color as the wall so it will blend in.
We used our stud finder (and no, the LOML didn’t aim it at himself and say “Found the stud!”) and marked along the wall to attach the board securely. We drilled 5 holes, 3 of which went into studs. We’ll have to use wall anchors for the other two holes.
Then we drilled matching holes in the board as well.
Then with a little help from son #1, we attached the board and rail while checking to keep the rail level.
Here’s how the door hardware will fit on the railing.
Next we attached the hanger hardware to the door as per the instructions. Always measuring twice before drilling!
We recruited son #3 to help son #1 hang the completed door onto the rail while we watched and wished we could take certain people to the barber for haircuts!!
And voilà
Now that we’ve practiced on the master bedroom closet barn door, we will attempt a double barn door to our master bathroom. Here’s a view from our bed looking at the closet on the left and the bathroom on the right.
Can’t wait to finish the last project in our master bedroom!
Come back to see the double barn door project all completed!
