We got our butcherblock countertop last night for our kitchen island and let me tell you
~ IT IS BEAUTIFUL~
I never thought I could fall in love with wood BUT… it has happened! Or at least, it’s deep infatuation!
We bought the piece of butcherblock from IKEA for $325 with shipping. The LOML found a local woodworker in the yellow pages (yp.com) after typing in “woodworking”. He called the first one that had a website. Charles from Bluewater Custom Woodworks. LLC called back the same day. He came and picked up the wood. He ordered the drill bit for the Roman Ogee edge we wanted. He cut a sample piece of wood and came and showed it to me to make sure I liked it.
He also cut a scalloped edge on two of the ends. We got the counter back in two weeks. It looks absolutely beautiful! We paid $225 and it was worth EVERY
Isn’t it beautiful??
If we were planning to use the butcherblock as a cutting board, we would need to oil the wood every 3-4 months.
But, we don’t want to use it like a cutting board. We will still cut on a cutting board so we will seal the wood with sealant then put a couple of coats of polyurethane. The color will be a lot darker and richer than in the picture.
I’ll share more tomorrow….
Good night!
Love ya,
Linda
