The LOML and I spent the morning at Lowe’s Home Improvement picking out these wonderful toys
Liquid TSP to degrease the cabinets
Beadboard paneling for three sides of the island
Skilsaw to cut the beadboard to fit the island
and a battery powered oscillating tool kit to cut the outlet holes in the beadboard
Some other wonderful goodies we bought ~ liquid nails, Crown liquid deglosser, Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer, Ultrapremium Valspar interior/exterior high-gloss enamel paint in ultra white, brushes, rollers, painters tape.
Five hundred dollars poorer and we’re ready to go!! WOW!!!
A shout out to the wonderful salesman at Lowe’s who sold us on the oscillating kit. We had no idea what tools we needed and he was so patient and explained everything and didn’t talk over our heads.
This kit contains a universal end cut blade (smaller) and an end cut blade (larger), a semicircle saw blade, a sanding pad, sanding sheets, carbide grit semicircle saw blade, scraper blade, dust extraction device, an allen wrench, two batteries and a lifetime warranty for replacement batteries. It’s amazing all the things you can do with this baby! The LOML used the semicircle saw blade to cut the outlet hole.
So, today we degreased the cabinets, took the doors and drawers and trim off, took the countertop off, cut and attached the beadboard to each side using liquid nails and panel nails at each corner. We rubbed the doors and drawers with Crown liquid deglosser and we’re letting it dry overnight.
We may have to sand a little bit tomorrow then prime.
We also ordered an oak butcherblock countertop from IKEA and should be seeing that in the next two weeks. Have I told you I’m a very BAD waiter?? As I don’t want to wait….not wait tables at a restaurant (just to clarify!).
Doesn’t look like much but it’s gettin’ there!!
