MORE KITCHEN REDO ~ It’s so exciting!!

PAINTING, WALLPAPERING, MARBLING….in that order.

I’ve been painting almost all my life!

I have some experience with wallpaper…some good, some bad. It’s a love/hate kinda thang!

I have NEVER marbled…NOT EVER! Getting very nervous!

Let me catch you up.

We finished painting all of the desk section of the kitchen. It looks absolutely beautiful!

I wallpapered the back of the open shelves with beadboard paper.

Now let’s talk about the next  nerve racking  exciting step of the kitchen redo. We want to change our counters so we did lots and lots and lots of research on countertops. We came up with one answer…..it’s VERY expensive! Because we’re trying to be cheap frugal, we decided to think outside the box.

I googled it! I looked under “faux marble techniques for countertops”. I found two interesting websites with two lovely ladies that have different techniques but come up with basically the same solution.

The first one is Murals and Faux Painting. Sandra Silva, a professional artist, came up with a technique for all kinds of faux painting and provides a kit with all the materials you’ll need to get a beautiful finish. So I ordered it for $39.99. The kit contains 2 DVDs explaining Old World, Color Washing, Faux Brick, Faux Stone, Sponging, Ragging and more  It also includes a FREE color suggestion and idea E-book plus a FREE video, a multi-color faux palette, a tuck and gather tool, and a poofy pad.

The second lovely lady is Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things. Her technique seems a little more intense but I like the outcome. She does everything free hand. She has a video that shows you step by step how to paint a beautiful faux marble table including a recipe for a Blood Orange Cosmo which she recommends drinking before attempting this technique to get you relaxed. I may have to take her up on it if I get any more nervous!!

So my plan is this……

I have cleaned, primed, and painted a portion of my island countertop. If you recall, we are replacing it with an IKEA butcher block that’s coming SATURDAY. I’m giddy!!

I painted with a white acrylic paint. Tomorrow, after the paint is dry, I will try both techniques side by side and see which one I’m most comfortable doing and which outcome I like best. I’ll let you know if I need that Cosmo!
