While at the Haven Conference last month, one of the speakers emphasized the importance of your blogname when trying to get traffic to your blog. It should represent what you do and who you are.
That got me thinking!
WHY DID I NAME MY BLOG
“HOME IS WHERE MY HEART IS”?
A little background:
When I was a little girl, all I wanted to be was a mom (and a professional singer like Doris Day!). My mother was a stay-at-home mom until my dad passed away. She still had all four kids at home so she had to go to work.
I remember exactly how I felt the first time I came home from school and my mom was not there to greet me. It was disheartening for me as a thirteen year old girl. I missed her! I knew I wanted to be there for my kids when they got home from school.
I graduated from college with my nursing degree, was married to the LOML and really enjoyed my full-time job as an RN on a med/surg floor at a hospital in our town.
I realized as I got older, how difficult it would be for our household to live on one income especially as we lived in an affluent area of South Florida.
After three years, we started our family.
I had 6 weeks of maternity leave and decided we could live comfortably on me only working part-time when I returned back to work.
I never realized how difficult it was going to be to leave my little guy
…even though I was leaving him in the capable hands of my mother-in-law. I couldn’t stand the thought that I was going to miss a day of his short little life!!
All the girls at work said it would get easier. THEY LIED TO ME!! It never got easier with any of my first three babies. I hated leaving every single one of my kids. Source
So, while I approached the end of my fourth pregnancy, the LOML and I decided to try living off one income and to be a little bit more frugal. NOT MY CUP OF TEA let me tell ya!!
I absolutely loved and still love being home with my kids. I love helping in their classrooms, having lunch with them, having breakfast with my friends, running my house.I AM IN MY ELEMENT!!
In no way am I saying I made the right choice and all you working moms are doing the wrong thing. NO WAY!! I’m saying I made the right choice for me. I’ve worked with a lot of women who HAD to work and some women who CHOSE to work. Each of them found their happiness in their own circumstance. I LOVE my circumstance.
Now to the reason for this post.
HOME IS WHERE MY HEART IS
is really the truth of my life. My heart really is wherever my family is. Home is where my family is. It’s not a house, a building, a place…..it’s a state of being. It’s playing basketball together, it’s eating dinner as a family, watching a movie during movie night, it’s game night, it’s going to church together, it’s enjoying each other.
I love doing projects around my house and making my house OUR home….. BUT it wouldn’t mean anything if I didn’t have my family cheering me on, helping me, and sometimes questioning my judgment (i.e.stenciling the pantry).
So I hope the name I picked represents who I am and what I love to do.
WHO I AM: wife, mother, child of God. WHAT I LOVE TO DO: Making our house a home and sharing with y’all what I have learned along the way.
A NEW PROJECT ON THE HORIZON
Something that I’m very excited about is a new project. A dear friend has asked me to decorate and organize her multi-building office. It’s a huge project for me and my first REAL decorating JOB so I’m very nervous. I want to please “the client”, my friend.
This weekend, we’ll be taking before pictures and discussing plans for the spaces. I’m excited to share it with you this coming week.
