When I was a young mother, I attended a women’s bible study at my church taught by the older wiser women to mentor younger women. We met at one of the teachers’ houses. When we entered the home, there were 4 dining tables elaborately decorated beautifully with different settings and center pieces. The hostess would take us into the kitchen and teach us how to cook a different meal every week. Then we would be rewarded with that delicious meal. The bible study was called “Apples of Gold” and it was based on a book by the same title: “Apples of Gold: A Six-Week Nurturing for Women.”
We were taught lessons on kindness, loving your husband and children, submission, purity, and hospitality and is based on Titus 2:3-5.
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
It’s been many years since that bible study but I still carry the messages, the hospitality, the recipes, and the friendships I gained from attending. It was a wonderful experience.
Now, the reason I shared this story is because I want to share with you one of the many recipes I still use to this day. This is one of the LOML’s favorite salads.
