My master bedroom is looking more beautiful with every project we complete!!
So far, we’ve done
THE BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC FIREPLACE
The next step in this fun makeover is to get rid of the awful old carpet and replace it with beautiful engineered hardwood flooring just like
THE MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET
Our master bedroom is a very large room so laying wood floors is a big job. Thankfully, it is just a big rectangle with no weird spaces to fill.
The first step was to empty the room of all the furniture.
We moved our queen bed into Son #4s room next door where it will stay because we bought a new king size bed for our master bedroom.
Next, we removed all the carpet, carpet pad, tacking strips, and a million nails and staples.
I then swept twice and vacuumed. I hope I don’t gross you guys out but there was enough sand under the carpet for my own beach!!
Now we’re ready to lay down the flooring.
We got 20 boxes of 3/8″ x 5-1/8″ Engineered Fall Harvest Bamboo at $2.29/sq. ft. from Lumber Liquidators. It’s the same flooring we used in hallway and the master closet so we were old hats at laying this baby!
Similar to the hallway, we started at the most difficult spot in the room which was the entrance door and closet door (they meet at a corner). We had to saw the bottom of the door jambs so the flooring could fit underneath. Then we laid the ecosilent underlayment (that’s the gray sheet)
After the hard place was done, the rest of the boards went down with no problem.
The flooring comes in 24″ and 48″ planks so we scattered them so the seams are spread out evenly. We had to make special cuts for the end of each row and around the fireplace hearth.
And here is the finished floor!!
Our next and final step in our master bedroom makeover is the best part….DECORATING!!!
If you want to read some of the plans for the room you can read it in this post.
