SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA Day 4 ~ more frisbee

Hello everybody and welcome to another day in San Diego!

Another day of frisbee watching, cheering, yelling, etc. It was a beautiful day in San Diego for some ultimate frisbee. I was told that San Diego has the perfect weather. They were not lying!! It’s not too hot, no humidity, a nice cool breeze and the sun is always shining!

Because the boys won one of their games yesterday, they made it into the Championship bracket.

The first game was a bust. We played Rhino (a Portland team) and lost 15-9. Son #4 got to play against his childhood hero which was kind of fun to watch.

The second game was against Vault (Virginia Ultimate) which we beat yesterday and we beat them again 15-10.

After the second game, the team had a two hour break before their final game of the day. We ran to get lunch at McDonalds (love their fries!!) and we headed back to the hotel for a little nap. When we walked into our hotel room, I got a text from Son #4 saying they started their final game because there was an open field and both teams didn’t want to wait around for two hours. So we hopped back into our rental car and sped back to the fields. We missed the first few points but we made it!! The things we do for our kids!!

The third game was against Chain Lightning (Atlanta) and we lost 15-10. I was told by an experienced frisbee mom that most teams don’t win any games at Nationals their first time. We won two so we were ahead of the game! So proud of all of the boys and how hard they played together.

A bunch of fields away the quarterfinals were being played so everyone went over to watch and cheer them all on. Another team from NC was playing (Ring of Fire) against PoNY (Pride of New York) and there were hundreds of players ringing the field two and three deep watching on. It was a great atmosphere of sportmanship and camaraderie.

We met up with another mother from our team who traveled all the way from Pennsylvania and we went out to dinner at SB Kitchen in Solano Beach. She was headed home in the morning so we ate and drank and talked and laughed. It was a great time and the food and service were great! Our waiter’s name was Gaston and I said, “Like the bad guy in Beauty and the Beast?” He said yes. I asked if he could sing Gaston’s song from the film and he said yes but sadly, he did not.

Through our sons’ journey with ultimate frisbee, we have met some of the nicest parents and players. We’ve cheered our sons on and cried for them when they lost. We’ve laughed and complained and loved our boys from the sidelines and it’s been quite an experience.

After our dinner, we said our goodbyes and gave hugs and headed back to our hotel.

Tomorrow, the boys have one more game and then our California vacation begins!!

Come back and see how the boys finish up at Nationals!!

Love y’all,

Linda
