Quick…name that movie!?
For all of you who said “Sweet Home Alabama” you win the prize. One of my favorite light, love story movies.
And I love the line “So I can kiss you anytime I want.”
While we were building our master bedroom reading nook,
I knew I wanted a big farmhouse sign hanging on the wood plank wall between the two lights. The hard part was finding the perfect saying.
BINGO!! It came to me one day and the rest is history!
Here’s how we made the sign.
I ordered the vinyl letters in the font I loved from 1LittleYellowHouse on Etsy for $12.00.
We visited our friendly neighborhood Home Depot and bought a 4×8′-7/32 in. sheet of plywood for the backing and we used leftover 1″ pine boards for the frame pieces.
The LOML cut the pieces for a 30×36 sign. He cut the pine boards into 2″ strips with a mitred corner at each end to make the picture frame. He also cut a 1/4″ groove into the frame pieces so we can slide the board into the frame.
I stained the frame pieces a dark mahogany by Minwax, waited for it to dry then polyurethaned with two coats.
I painted the plywood backing with three coats of bright white trim paint lightly sanding in between coats. Then I applied two coats of polyurethane.
Now, assembling the frame was no easy feat let me tell you!! We first attached the mitred corners together using this cool contraption called a 90 degree corner clamp.
We attached three of the sides together with wood glue, staples and nails.
We were having a very difficult time sliding the back board into the frame because the back board was a tiny bit too wide. So the LOML shaved off a minimal piece and the board just slid into place perfectly!!! This project was testing the LOMLs patience and that takes a lot. The man has the patience of a saint, let me tell you!
The fun part of my job for this project was figuring out where to place the vinyl words.
Here were my options:
After much thought and the LOML giving his opinion, we went with the middle one.
And here is the finished wall hanging in its new home!
What do y’all think? I love that I finished another project and I’m closer to completing my master bedroom redo.

We’re braving Hurricane Florence today. The electricity keeps flickering on and off but we’re safe and dry. They’re predicting flooding in our area. Keep safe everybody!
