The cozy reading nook in our master bedroom is coming along so nicely. I’m so proud of all the planning and work that we’ve put into this small but fun space.
When we started this blog, we were definitely what you would call “novices”. We knew nothing about building bookcases, laying wood floors, pulling up carpet, or painting furniture. I always had these great ideas in my head but did not know how to carry them out. But with a little courage and a very willing helper (the wonderful LOML ~ Love of My Life) we have done things we would have never thought possible. And if WE can do it, ANYONE can do it!!
Which leads us to our cozy little reading nook.
So far, we’ve built the bench,
and the bookcases on the bases.
The next step was to apply the wood planking to the back wall. I ordered three boxes of
Design Innovation Reclaimed Aged Cedar Wood Wall Plank Kit from Lowe’s for $25.99 per box.
I was so excited to start hanging the wood plank wall which was a little bit harder than we expected (the wood was a little flimsy and fragile) but how it turned out was absolutely beautiful!!
Because the one side of the plank wall butts up against the angled ceiling, the LOML did a great job of figuring out angles and cutting the planks to fit perfectly.
The planks are tongue and groove so we slid each piece onto the row below, scattering the seams to give it strength. Every two or three rows, we nailed each piece with our trusty nail gun. We were also crazy about checking with the level to make sure everything was straight.
I was so excited as the planks were going up. It was so beautiful! When we had a row and a half left, we RAN OUT OF WOOD!! I had to order another box of planks so our project was put on hold. DARN!!
It took a couple of days for the fourth and final box of wood planks to arrive. It was pretty easy finishing up the row and a half and the plank wall made the space feel so warm. We love it!!
Of course, silly me didn’t get a picture of the finished wall but I promise you’ll love the reveal!! So come back soon!
Hope y’all are enjoying your week!
Love y’all,
Linda
