THE STAIRWAY REVEAL ~ who left the door open?

A few posts ago I told you how I wanted to paint my staircase. It’s oak everywhere and I’m trying to get rid of two things in my house ~ oak and brass! I’m going to win this war if it kills me. It seems that both are taking over my house!!
I also told you how I love all the black inside doors I’m seeing all over blogland. I love how it looks so classy (and it hides many things!!).
Here’s the before of my staircase and front door
Son #1 and I primed with two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3. Then came the taping. I had to tape every single (I think I counted a thousand!!) spindle. The next day we painted the base of the spindles and the spindles with two coats of Sherwin Williams ProClassic Smooth Enamel Finish for Trim and Doors in gloss finish Extra White.
Then we got the black paint out! Black is a very scary color to work with for me. Black is difficult to clean up if you spill so I was EXTRA careful with drips. It’s also very hard to cover if you get it on the wall or the nicely painted spindles. I painted with three coats of Sherwin Williams All Surface Enamel in black.
WOW, what a difference a little paint makes!!!!
THE STAIRCASE
THE FRONT DOOR

After I painted the door, every time someone would look over to the foyer, they thought someone left the front door open! It’s going to take a little while to get used to it, but I love how it came out!!
To break up the black a little I made the wreath from two left over wreaths I had
I like the wreath on the left. I just wanted it lighter so I  spray painted it white. I took off the flowers on the wreath on the right and twist tied them to the new white wreath.
The finished product
What do you think of painting anything and everything to change the look? I’ve threatened my family with the fact that I would probably paint them if they stayed in one place long enough.
Right now, I’m painting all the accessories for the kitchen either white or green.
Tell me what you’ve painted lately. Please share!
Love y’all,
Linda

  1. I love the black railing and black door! So much better now. You are working on so many of the same types of projects as myself. Good luck to you!
